It has been awhile since I’ve painted a family portrait, but for this one, I wanted to do something different. With full control on creative direction, I decided to put the family in an expanded version of Monet’s “The Beach at Sainte-Adresse,” to express the families close ties to Florida, the ocean and beach life. Doing this also made it possible for me to make the portrait more color rich and dynamic. Half way through I did regret taking this route because it was proving far more difficult than expected. However, the painting really did turn out well and looks great in person.
